Catch Up: Podcasts for a Snowstorm

Catch Up: Podcasts for a Snowstorm

A lot of the United States is Under some type of Storm Warning right now.

I grew up in Buffalo, one of those areas that is relatively well known for its winter storms. It instilled in me a sense of "prepare for the worst, hope for the best". Now that I live in Baltimore, I understand a little more of what it means to be prepared for bad storms. Certain areas just don't get these storms, or any storm, regularly enough to invest in the infastructure.

If you're preparing for this storm, or are in it, follow local warnings. Ice is serious, ice and snow is deadly. Ice alone is deadly.

I am here to give you some suggestions on podcasts to "catch up on" - you know, the ones that you don't want to start because you "don't have time". A lot of these will be fiction, too. There's something about listening to a good fiction podcast by firelight, candlelight, or lamplight. So let's go for it. Click the pictures to head to the PodLink.

These Might Be Creepy

These podcasts lean creepy, or into horror. They're good, with a large backlog. They'll give you hours of entertainment, but depending on where you're at with your relationship with the creeps, it might not be for you.

Welcome to Nightvale

This is one of those ones that no one will ever feel caught up on unless you either commit or have been listening since the beginning. A winter storm is a good chance to get ahead on for a catch up.

The White Vault

This one is storm stressful, but it's amazing. It's a thriller that takes place in a research outpost in the arctic. It's a great, gripping podcast.

Modes of Thought In Anterran Literature

A found-audio thriller that involves magic, spies, and ancient civilizations. I'm hoping to re-listen and catch up on this one.

Less Stressful

These podcasts are mostly not stressful, but may have stressful moments.

The Harbingers

This one is a new one you can catch up on! If you like XMen, with the twists and turns of a deposition, this one is for you. Also, there's magic? Amazing.

Two Thousand and Late

Season one is done, ready for you to marathon and listen! A dark comedy about being mad at the world.

Hymns for the Road

This one takes place in an America after a magical apocolypse. Since parts of the country are shutting down their roads, it's a great time to listen to this one as it mostly takes place in a car.

Residents of Proserpina Park

This is a great fiction podcast that has its own storyline, but will sink you in to all sorts of non-Western mythology. It's a great podcast that's a great intro to a bigger world of mythology than some of us have immediate access to.

Fun and Least Stressful

These podcasts are great for when you want to sink into something that's great, and not super stressful.

36 Questions

A short-ish podcast romantic comedy musical podcast starring Jonathan Groff. What more can I say?

Wizard Seeking Wizard

This is one of my favorite podcasts ever. It is silly, heartwarming, and just plain fun. It's a great podcast for escapism and laughs.

Turtletown

This podcast is one I like to recommend as a relatively chill podcast with a solid storyline, and great worldbuilding. I really enjoy it.

Non Fiction to Listen To

These are some of my favorite non-fiction podcasts that will immerse you in a story. Some of these have moments of stress, but they won't be storm-stressful.

Come By Chance

Swapped babies, family mysteries, and more.

Moonrise

One of my all time favorite podcasts. It chronicles how art and science fiction influenced the space race.

Articles of Interest

Every season of this is a masterclass of storytelling. Fashion history has never been this accessible, thoughtful or well done.

If none of these interest you, do me a favor and check out podcast recommendations from my friends.
