Gift Guide for the Podcast Lover

Gift Guide for the Podcast Lover

The Scene:

Oh no. You drew me in the yearly friends-mas gift exchange. We don't know each other that well. You know I like knitting, but also your sister is VERY particular about her supplies, so you know buying something like that offhand is a no-go. You don't maybe know much about me, but you hear me talk about podcasts a lot.

I'll help you out. Below is a list of ideas for gifts for the podcast lover. When what we like is free, what can you buy us?

Act One: The Obvious

Direct to the Podcaster

  • Merch
  • Patreon Subscriptions

You can get me merch. Bigger podcasts have merch, so if you've heard me talk about those episodes I love from Stuff You Should Know, check out their merch site.

There's also Patreons or Listening Clubs for a lot of podcasts. Empire has one that's pretty affordable at $35 a year for the base price. Taboo Science has a fantastic Patreon starting at $5 a month. There are options if you pay attention. You could probably ask me what podcasts I've listened to without me blinking an eye at why, friend I don't really know. I love talking about podcasts that much.

Act Two: The Practical Gifts

Keep the Podcasts Flowing

  • External Batteries
  • Cleaning Kits
  • Cables case

Oh no, you tuned out the podcast titles. You're too socially anxious to ask me. You just remember the subject matter. That's okay! There are a ton of practical gifts you can get that will probably be funny.

An external battery is one of them. It can be a cheap one, a small one, one that shouldn't act like a hand warmer - but does anyway. I would love to have a way to keep charging my earbuds and my phone all the time so I can keep listening to my podcasts.

A funny one, that may be slightly confusing, is a cleaning kit for my phone or my earbuds. They absolutely do exist, and if you don't have one - consider picking one up. We don't want our ears to get gross, and we want our charging ports to remain efficient and not full of lint.

Really, any tech-ish gadget is a decent idea for me. A cables case? Yes please! Do you know how many varieties of headphones I have?

Act Three: The, I Guess?

Things to Do While Podcasting

  • Journals
  • Coloring Books
  • Puzzles

I hand-write a lot of my podcast thoughts before I get them on a computer. Consider getting me a new lay-flat journal. Some really smooth, fine-tip pens are also amazing ideas.

You know what also is a great idea along this line? Coloring books, puzzles, or little Lego sets (although, The Other might steal those). Things that I can do with my hands while listening to podcasts, that isn't Tetris, is a game changer. Grab me an easy enough coloring book from Five Below and some good old fashioned Crayola colored pencils, and we've got ourselves a winner.

End Scene:

Getting me for a holiday gift exchange isn't actually scary. Like, at all. I also accept fuzzy socks, food, and coffee things. However, I do hope this breakdown got you thinking about the podcast lover in your life, and what gift might work for them.

I've written over one hundred reviews, and a few of these silly pieces, in the last five years of doing this. Every single review is free, and nearly every podcast I review is free. If you like what I do, consider throwing me a tip on my Support Page so I can keep doing this.
