I can’t imagine jumping into talk-show-type podcasts. Sure, everyone has a reason to listen to New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce right now - but these chat-style podcasts based around known people are just the tip of the iceberg in podcast land.
It felt so far away from me, and the black-and-white pictures proved it. I grew up in the age of the grainy cell phone footage becoming this monstrosity of lenses I carry in my pocket. The progress feels normal, not wondrous.
If you have a few days off for the holidays, consider sinking into a couch with these podcasts. You can enjoy some mindless crafting as you lull yourself into a podcast-induced trance.
Podcasts are the weight of the player, and mostly the cost of the time. They can inform, delight, confound, and reassure. They can be what a book can be, or a movie, or a song. They have power, but it’s hard to find the way or the time or even the motivation to try something new.
It’s yours. The crackling before the audio fully starts, the smell as the needle runs across the ridges and grooves, the click of the arm as the record ends. It’s all something you own when your audio is on vinyl.
